Tunisia votes in favor of gender equality in new charter
Tunisia's constituent assembly has approved an article in the draft constitution on Monday, with the document set to ensure gender equality "without discrimination, AFP reported. The charter was approved by 159 lawmakers out of the 169 who voted. "All male and female citizens have the same rights and duties. They are equal before the law without discrimination," the document stated. Since the 1950s and independence from France, Tunisia has had the most liberal laws on women's rights in the Arab world.
